The writers had little reason to bring him up just for him to quit his job and beat up Hammerschmidt, right? There's gotta be something more there but I can't put my finger on it yet. Not really sure why but I feel like Freddy could play a role next season too.

I loved the scene where he had it in for the bathroom stall door. He's a time bomb I've been waiting to see go off, so calm for way too long. It could take one drink and he'll either go out in a blaze or spill something he's been bottling up too long. Whether or not the transplant organization's head lady comes down on him, or he blows it up himself, I can see him having a quick end similar to Russo (it could be poetic for them to go out in the same way actually, to really draw attention to Frank when he's under the microscope). When he hit that donate button after clearly becoming captivated with the transplant widow, I knew that was the beginning of his downfall. When Seth started to call his bluffs, it was clear Doug was losing it. It seems that Doug is realizing his power isn't as strong as it once was - or at least not as strong as he always thought it was. Someone actually told me before I started my binge that Doug died at the end of the season, not sure why they'd lie to me like that, but I was watching him especially close in anticipation. She doesn't seem to have much to lose but could totally gain her sanity back by taking Frank down with what she knows/has witnessed.ĭoug, Doug, Doug. Just a note also: Janine's appearance in this season was definitely an invitation for her to come back. That could be an interesting turn to usher Claire into the top seat too, because I don't see the writers giving the White House to Conway. Whether Hammerschmidt is able to do that digging himself, find help from an important source, or catch Frank on it (perhaps somehow similar to the way Frank tried to intimidate Durant in the oval office with the letter opener - heh is this Clue or what?) I think it all finally has to come up next season.

I don't think Hammerschmidt's story will be enough as it is NOW to really take down Frank, but judging by all of the dream sequences - especially the inclusion of Zoe and Russo - those elements of Frank's past are ready to pop up. His transplant recovery was glossed over very quickly, and I think that's because the writers didn't want to spend too much time on complications or concerns too early - they're saving that for later. This is definitely going to come up again. We saw a couple times that when Frank started to get a little heated, he'd pause in pain then push through it. It is a glorious sight when Claire is attempting to manipulate everyone to her will, but the character needs the foundation of the Underwood marriage to really succeed.I just finished a little bit ago and noticed a lot of things being hinted at in the last few episodes of the season that I think are worth it to touch on for prediction's sake: Seeing Remy ( Mahershala Ali) dragged back then involving Tusk ( Gerald McRaney) is a welcome return of some antagonistic characters. However Claire is the main character of this episode making plenty of manipulative power plays.

The loyal attack dog Stamper ( Michael Kelly) goes on full offensive mode and it seems a little extreme even for him. When Underwood breaks the fourth wall and addresses the audience it is menacing and effective but the dream sequences feel incongruous with the tone of the series. This suggests Underwood has a conscience, something we know the character would consider a weakness. Corey Stoll and Kate Mara return in Underwood’s drug fuelled state, his victims tormenting him. This season has featured hallucinations/dreams of Frank having a brutal fight with Claire ( Robin Wright) but this episode amps up the dream factor. This is a strong episode but it does suffer from that unmistakable President Underwood droll.

They can’t kill Kevin Spacey as the show just isn’t as good. After the explosive last episode reality hits in this chapter.
